Community Treescapes in London

Energy Garden’s Trees Programme

Our Treescapes transform London’s overlooked spaces into thriving hubs of natural discovery and community exchange. Through collaborations with community groups and project partners that range from local authorities to National Rail, Energy Garden is creating nature-rich spaces that help Londoners experience the benefits of greener, healthier, and more resilient neighbourhoods.

  • “Energy Garden have built a really good community around the Canonbury Forecourt – they’ve brought vibrancy and colour to the space and are really up for working together with us to make a resilient tree scape in the area”

Francisco White, Assistant Tree Officer, Islington Council

  • “In the future I’d like more projects like this in the neighbourhood – with people from all backgrounds and ages coming together and doing something manual. Doing something with our hands is really good for the soul. It also means that when people walk through their streets, they feel proud and want the best for it”

Our Approach

Each of the Community Treescapes we develop champions biodiversity, Tree Equity, community stewardship, and climate resilience.

Our projects reflect the site-specific needs of the context we are working in – this means that project typologies vary from community orchards and climate resilient groves to dense pocket forests.

To ensure local communities’ priorities and cultural context are reflected in our Treescapes, Energy Garden engages residents across the design, planting, and aftercare of each project.

1. Engage & Design

Site plan of a garden featuring various trees, including apple, mastic, and sea buckthorn, along with existing trees, proposed pathways, rock garden, benches, and energy garden raised beds. A legend lists tree species with symbols, and the plan includes the nearby Canonbury train station and underground.

2. Plant & Landscape

Group of people planting young trees in a city park with some buildings and trees in the background, some are wearing orange safety vests.

3. Maintain & Report

Person measuring a young tree with a yellow measuring tape in a garden.
