Cultivate Colindale is transforming a vacant lot at Heybourne Park into a vibrant hub for sustainability, creativity, and community. This community space is a joint initiative by Energy Garden and Wayward.
The site currently features: two large greenhouses functioning as a workshop space and a working greenhouse; a materials yard; a meadow; and the House of Wayward Plants Reuse Centre, building on a decade-long partnership as the Official Reuse Partner of the RHS.
Cultivate Colindale will serve as a hub for distributing rescued plants, trees, and reclaimed landscape materials to support community green spaces across London. Additionally, it will be a space to host various events for the local community alongside hosting regular volunteering sessions to encourage the community to shape the space.
Cultivate Colindale at a glance:
Size: 4000m2
Built elements: greenhouses, polytunnel, courtyard
Horticultural description: Aside from the working greenhouse currently comprised of hundreds of cuttings from local residents’ plants, the meadow area is a completely self seeded space with only the intervention of two trees. It boasts a rich species diversity and dispersion that human hands could not replicate.
