On a warm July afternoon, our Energy Garden HQ and garden burst into life as 92 community members, volunteers, friends, and families came together for our annual Summer Party.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with laughter, conversation, and the scent of delicious food cooking. The Energy Garden team served up fresh cob-oven pizzas, while Martin treated us to a flavour-packed chicken tikka BBQ. Our amazing volunteers brought a beautiful potluck spread, turning the table into a feast of homemade dishes. To top it all off, we enjoyed the debut of the newly brewed Energy Garden Ale and refreshing homemade ginger beer.

Exploring the Garden with Ellen’s Ecological Networks Activity

One of the day’s highlights was an interactive scavenger hunt led by Ellen, our Biodiversity & Community Science Lead. Guests ventured through the garden searching for hidden images of plants, animals, and fungi, learning to identify species and helping to reconstruct an ecological web of the garden’s many connections. It was a playful, hands-on reminder of the biodiversity thriving in our shared space.

Stories and Updates from the Energy Garden Team

After the scavenger hunt, everyone gathered to hear updates from the Energy Garden team. This year we welcomed 2 new engagement officers: Brandon and Juan Pablo, and a new communications and events officer, Selvia. We reflected on recent projects, celebrated community milestones, and looked ahead to the next chapter of growing greener spaces, community-owned solar projects, youths education, and stronger networks across London.

And then… it was time to cool off! Guests were treated to homemade ice cream in three flavours: Thai Tea, Double Chocolate, and Cornflake Milk, the perfect way to chill under the hot summer sun.

A Celebration Made by Many

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us — long-time volunteers, new friends, members, and families. This day wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our community: from those who brought food and drinks, to those who rolled up their sleeves and helped keep the event running smoothly.

The Energy Garden Summer Party is a celebration of what we can create together — a space filled with good copmany, shared knowledge, and a shared commitment to making our city greener, healthier, and more connected.
