Community Carpentry Workshop

This summer, the Ebury Edge Energy Garden courtyard buzzed with the sound of saws, drills, and laughter as local residents and community came together for our free community carpentry workshop series.

Over two hands-on sessions, neighbours learned how to work with reclaimed timber, safely handle tools, and transform materials into beautiful, custom-sized balcony planters — perfect for adding a little extra greenery at home.

Learning and Building Together

In the first session, participants got stuck into carpentry basics — from measuring and cutting to assembling wooden panels. Guided by our friendly workshop leads, Silas and Callum, everyone had the chance to try new tools and techniques, with plenty of tips and encouragement along the way.

By the second session, the Ebury Edge Energy Garden had turned into a mini workshop floor. Residents put their new skills into action, building their own planters to take home – all set to bring a little piece of the Energy Garden spirit onto porches and balconies.

A Space for Connection and Creativity

These workshops were really about sharing skills, supporting one another, and creating something tangible together.

One participant told us:

“The carpentry workshop was amazing! I learned really from the scratch which was really helpful for beginner. All mentors were interactive and guided extremely well! Glad that I joined the event ❤️”

Another participant said:

“I had such a great time at the carpentry workshop! The mentors were incredibly helpful and gave really clear guidance, it was a wonderful opportunity to learn a new skill, make something with my hands and have some great chats!”

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part for bringing such warmth and enthusiasm to each session. Special thanks to Beatrice, Silas, and Callum for organising and facilitating the sessions, and to everyone who helped made this workshop possible.
